About Us
Lokpanchayat was founded by a group of youth volunteering in the Rashtra Seva Dal. They were inspired by the call of eminent freedom fighter and social activist Saathi Achyutrao Patwardhan for 'creating 300 ideal villages in Maharashtra with water conservation as its core.' The founders of Lokpanchayat began their work by watershed development in the scorched lands of Ahmednagar district. The journey that began with a few youth working in one village has now grown to a network of hundreds of farmers and villages in Sangamner, Akole, and Shrigonda blocks of Ahmednagar district (Maharashtra, India).
Development with justice and conservation of the environment is seen by Lokpanchayat as a foundation of sustainable development. The dream of creating 'ideal villages' was realized in improving the livelihood options of the underprivileged and increasing their participation in the conservation of natural resources. Lokpanchayat remained focused on empowering the resource less people and activating the self-governing institutions of Panchayat Raj and in enhancing other support systems in the villages.
The Lokpanchayat currently works in following focus area:
